Sure thing! I am kind of busy with a new job, but I have evenings and weekends free to work on it, so no big deal. I don't have internet access at home so I'm not usually online until the weekends, but I'll send it to you as soon as it's done! You can e-mail me at moc.liamg|xofretoobeerF#moc.liamg|xofretoobeerF if you want a specific height/length, or just reply to this message. Otherwise I'll make something a little bigger than my own face as a sort of one-size-fits-all kind of thing.

Forum category: Hidden / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Freebooter Fox

I came across your Phanto paper-craft template. I'm quite impressed with it, and I wanted to make a request. You see, I am a chiptune artist under the name Phanto Bro. I have been planning to do a live performance and want to wear a Phanto mask for show. I had been thinking about how to make said mask, and stumbled upon your work. However, I tend to use the 'Super Nintendo' version of the Phanto as a symbol, rather than the NES one. So, I was wondering if you could possibly make an alternate Phanto mask? I was wondering if it could be something like this:

Phanto

If you could possibly do this for me, I would be immensely grateful. However, I understand if you do not have enough time, since you have a long list of other projects you wish to fulfill. If you want to contact me, my e-mail address is phantobro @gmail.com

Thank you for your time.

Forum category: Hidden / Per page discussions
Forum thread: Freebooter Fox

I've made two things by hand. I tried putting together templates, but couldn't get the measurements right in Illustrator. My last model is about 85% finished, but I'm just too lazy to tweak the pieces that need to be shortened/lengthened. And by too lazy, I mean it's been over a year since I even opened the file.

I've got a notebook with a few models sketched, but I'm probably never going to get around to actually building the templates. I've got a Grim Reaper inspired by Death from The Hogfather, a "Thug", and a Rhino sort of patterned after the Rommy Sloth series. I've also got a cubee design waiting to be traced in Illustrator, but once again…Too damned lazy.

Forum category: Papercraft / General Papercraft Discussion
Forum thread: Designing papercraft by hand

minor amounts like that don't matter… From what I figure, 1/8" is the finest detail you'll ever need to worry about because of the margin created by several factors- human error when assembling, and the size of the paper tab mixed with the radius of the fold (increased by the thickness of the paper). you'd be surprised at how much a model can expand or contract due to these little factors.

Forum category: Papercraft / General Papercraft Discussion
Forum thread: Designing papercraft by hand

So, anyway, /pw/, how hard do you think it is to design something by hand? I mean, making Haruhi or a multi-dimentional curve may be hard, but if you are designing a building or other geometrically simple object, you could duke it out pencil and paper. All basic papercraft design really needs is polygons, arcs, circles, and frustums, with tabs. (And maybe textures). As I am more interested in making mechanical papercraft and skyscrapers and such than masks and anime figurines (I still love that stuff to death), I don't see why it would be a problem.

Considering writing a program to help draw out, texture, and print papercraft designed this way, IF I get less lazy (havent gotten 20% done with tutorials yet) and bother looking up the specifics of GUI's and all that fun stuff.

What do y'all think?

Forum category: Papercraft / General Papercraft Discussion
Forum thread: Designing papercraft by hand

http://zip.4chan.org/po/res/199214.html
This thread from /po/ caught my interest, so I started on the Sol Emeralds, and I'm in need of a test builder.
Evidently I wasn't the only one unsure of the other dimensions of the emeralds (I could only find sprites that provided a front view), so I made three different versions. One is a flat, almost LoZ Rupee-like shape, one is more like a rectangular prism, and the other mocks an emerald cut.

Original:

The whole kit (a .rar), with .pdos and .pdfs (with and without lines) for each build is available for download here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?unnu0qznmow

Probably going to work on my own version of the regular chaos emeralds next.

Forum category: Papercraft / User-Designed
Forum thread: Sonic Emeralds

lulz…I think I just fixed it, maybe. Can anybody else get to this?

EDIT-
By the way, here's the fix:
http://community.wikidot.com/howto:forums-fixing-them#toc6

When it gives you the "page does not exist (yet)" bit, click the "Create Page" link, find the relevant section in the help page above (in this case forum:thread was the problem), copy the module/do not touch text from the help page and paste into the content box of the page you're creating, rename the title to match what's listed on the fix page (in this case "Forum Thread") and save. Once it saves it will give you an "invalid thread" or "invalid page" message, but you should be able to go back and access forum threads without a problem.

This means someone tried to delete a thread instead of moving it to a hidden category made for holding "deleted" stuff, which is apparently the preferred method of getting rid of unwanted forum stuff. Deleting an individual post won't cause problems, but deleting anything above that in the hierarchy will screw things up. You can still delete things (so that they're gone forever and ever) instead of just moving them without doing permanent damage to the forum, but you'll have to recreate the forum:thread or forum:category or whatever relevant page every time after you're finished if you want it to work.

So I guess it's up to daijitsu and/or Dalndox to decide which one we're going to use, since I think you need admin access to use the hidden category method, but any mod can delete/recreate the pages. *shrugs*

Forum category: Papercraft / User-Designed
Forum thread: Testing 1 2 4 uh, 3

Well, I used to use Aleene's Original Tacky Glue, but lately I've been using the same superglue that Dai uses from Loctite.

That's some good stuff man.

IF, however I have a piece with a long joint, I go ahead and use the Aleene's for the end seals, and then fill the space with the loctite. This helps me get it lined up correctly, and the superglue gives me a good tight bond.

Forum category: Papercraft / General Papercraft Discussion
Forum thread: Adhesive of Choice

obviously you don't have to go all-out with the project. I can pull together a pretty fancy house for under $50, so I don't see much need to fret about materials used. It's the same concepts, but balsa is easier to work with as far as architecture goes, since paper tends to flop and warp.

If you'd like, you could possibly print out textures to use, such as wallpapers and carpets, then just glue them onto your much sturdier wooden walls.

Forum category: Papercraft / General Papercraft Discussion
Forum thread: Architectural modeling

Well, that certainly takes care of questions 2 & 3. :P I knew you worked with this stuff; I don't know why I didn't just tag you in the opening post.

What you say fills me with foreboding. I'm really not looking for something as badass as a balsa model. I think what I'm after is just a build-a-box with some texturing and a few gimmicks to make it pretty. I want something which can exist virtually as well as physically, so that's why I'd rather do paper instead of a "real" model. It'll probably go through several revisions and rebuilds before we're happy. I'm hesitant to work in something so permanent just yet.

I'll look at the stores around here - Michael's, A. C. Moore, and Jo-Ann's are my local ones - and see what they have to offer. I'm glad you brought up scale relative to dollhouse fixtures. Whether I go paper or "real", that's still probably the place to start.

Forum category: Papercraft / General Papercraft Discussion
Forum thread: Architectural modeling

well, given it's my job to do 3d models of houses and other buildings, I'm going to tell you it's going to be hard to do on a papercrafting standpoint…

Before the computer-based 3d section of the industry took it's hold, there were two ways of showing off a design- paying a sketch artist an absurd amount of money to draw a 2-point perspective of your house, or to gain a basic knowhow of how to build model houses.

I'm going to suggest you look into how they made these small houses. It was done mainly using balsa wood, but some people figured out their own unique ways. If you go to your local hobby store, there's actually a gigantic section of supplies and pre-made scale models. Just ask where the doll-house section is, I'm sure they've got an extensive selection. You'll find everything from couches to doors to window frames… Hell, at my store there's a selection of different door hinges.

All you really need to do is figure out what scale most of these bits and pieces are at, then build your model house at that same scale. If you need help, an architect's tri-sided ruler provides a few mainstream scale conversions to use.

Good luck, and if you need any more help feel free to ask!

Forum category: Papercraft / General Papercraft Discussion
Forum thread: Architectural modeling

Hm, that's a grat idea; probably lots of work but the outcome should be awesome ^^
I think what you need is Google SketchUp, which is a modeler made originally for creating architectural models(it has a lot of tools and textures for that). Link is http://sketchup.google.com/
As far as I know there are ways to export the model to Pepakura Designer, so you can create papercrafts of it.
And regarding your 3rd question, Google keeps a database of user-made models, that range from Star Wars models to famous buildings; link: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/
Hope I could help ^^

Forum category: Papercraft / General Papercraft Discussion
Forum thread: Architectural modeling
